What Can Smart TVs Do?

Smart TVs are taking over. If you are in the market for a new television, you might consider going this route. But if this is your first one, you may not fully understand what they can do.

There’s a reason why these televisions have increased in popularity. They are designed to connect to your home’s Wi-Fi, which results in a whole new entertainment experience.

If you’re not sure how this technology works, here is a look at what a smart TV can do.

  1. Connect to Netflix and Hulu

Netflix and Hulu are excellent choices if you want to cut cable and reduce your monthly expenses. You might have to access these streaming channels (and others) through a streaming device. Some people use an Apple TV or a gaming console, but with a smart TV, you don’t need a separate device.

Simply connect the TV to your home’s Wi-Fi network and then download the Netflix or Hulu app. You can stream and not worry about the expense of buying a streaming device.

  1. Connect to the Internet

Since you’re able to connect to the Internet, there’s also the option of surfing the Internet. You can watch YouTube videos, conduct a Google search, access your bank and financial websites, etc.

  1. Play games without a console

Not only can you download apps for streaming, a smart TV lets you download game apps. This comes in handy if you enjoy playing games, but you don’t have a video game console.

Games available for download vary but might include racing games, tennis games, and other fun activities. In most cases, you can use your smart TV remote as the game controller.

  1. Get fit with built-in fitness apps

Additionally, many smart TVs come preloaded with a variety of apps. Browse the selection and you might stumble upon a few fitness apps. These include aerobics videos, strength training videos, and even a few dance workouts. Turn your living room into a home gym. It’s a convenient and simple way to get fit without a gym membership. Lose weight, increase your endurance, tone up and feel better about yourself.

  1. Check social media

You’re probably accustomed to checking social media on your phone, tablet or computer. But these aren’t the only ways to keep up-to-date with friends and family. Your smart TV also lets you download social media apps.

From your TV, you can check your Facebook newsfeed, Twitter, Instagram and any other social media platform you have. In the event that you can’t use your phone, at least you have a way to stay connected to those close to you.

  1. Listen to live FM radio

Some people only listen to FM radio when in their car because they don’t have a radio in their home. But if you want to hear what’s happening live on the airways, you don’t have to sit in your car. Turn on your television and download a local radio app directly to the TV. Have the radio on while you’re getting dressed in the mornings, cooking or cleaning the house.

Bottom Line

Smart TV can do more than what some people realize. With the ability to connect your television to the Internet, there’s the option to listen to music, stream movies and shows, play games, check your social media profile and get physically fit.

Keep in mind that smart TVs tend to be more expensive than other TVs. But given all their features, the extra costs might be worth it. Determine what you need in a TV, and then decide whether a smart TV makes sense for you.
